Artworks and Students

We at Artworks believe that whatever his or her circumstance every young person should have the opportunity to discover and experience the magic of original art

What does Artworks do?

Every year we welcome primary, middle, secondary and upper school students to visit our exhibition in September. While some school groups simply enjoy touring the exhibition, others come prepared with art materials to sketch, draw and paint and continue with it back at school.

We also offer workshops to schools who visit our exhibition and show interest and enthusiasm in working with Artworks to benefit the children. Based on an application process, Artworks funds up to four workshops a year. The process allows a school to choose an Artworks’ artist with whom they would like to work. Together with the school the artist then plans the day and subsequently spends a whole day supporting the work of the students.

All the information you need for the Application Process is available here in Adobe PDF format. You can DOWNLOAD and PRINT OUT the following by clicking on the boxes. The completed Application Form must reach us by 12 June 2010.

Arranging a visit

The Artworks exhibition this year (our 11th Annual Exhibition) runs from Saturday 11 September to Sunday 3 October, open 10 am to 5 pm daily. Admission is free and teachers are more than welcome to visit the exhibition during this time.

We prefer school visits to be made between Monday to Friday and to avoid clashes with other schools it is important that you make a booking. We fully understand the nature of the school day and if you wish to arrive early, we can arrange a special early opening time for you. The contact details for Eileen Revett, our Schools’ Co-ordinator are detailed below. Please contact Eileen to book your visit and to discuss any special requirements or other issues regarding your visit and any follow-up work.

We want every child to enjoy their visit and to discover the magic that surrounds us all the time. This is what one of the teachers had to say.

“The children had a brilliant time. Their reaction to contemporary art surprised me by being so inquisitive and overwhelmingly positive - most of the children had never visited an art exhibition before!” Paula Evans, Thorndon Primary School, Suffolk.
