Artworks Concert 2008 - The Delightful Companions
Presenting another concert of music from the age of Baroque, this year Artworks welcomes The Delightful Companions, a diverse and experienced Baroque ensemble playing instruments of the period. The programme will explore the culture, the performing conditions, and the music of a particular time and place and will include work by Handel, Telemann, Corelli, Loeillet, Purcell and Bach. The Delightful Companions aim to put proven masterpieces in context with delightful lesser known works.
ELIZABETH PAGE ARCM studied at the Royal College of Music, specialising in Early Music. She plays recorders, other early winds, viols and occasionally the harpsichord. She was appointed to the professorial staff at the Royal College of Music in the early 70’s teaching the recorder, Renaissance and Baroque ensembles. She also taught at St Pauls Girls’ School, Roehampton Institute and Kingston University. On moving to Suffolk, Elizabeth started ‘The Delightful Companions’.
PAM MUNKS plays violin with the Hanover Band and the Orchestra of the Age of the Enlightenment. For a number of years, Pam was principal second violin with the Australian Opera, during which time she was violinist with several period-instrument groups in Sydney.
JEREMY HUGHES is a continuo cellist and freelance orchestral player who also works as a music editor. He founded and directs the Beethoven Chamber Orchestra. Well-known in the area as a chamber musician, he has also been known to tread the concert platform as a concerto soloist.
