Statement |
I make atmospheric paintings in oils on wood panel, often not priming, working with the colour and texture of the support. I love working in the field, trying to capture the essence of the particular moment, the light and landscape. Subjects are land and seascapes, trees, skies, with some interiors.
My collages and assemblages are more abstract. They are constructed from weathered found objects, organic or manmade, gathered for their aesthetic or textural qualities, or histories hinted at. New arrangements give the fragments new life. Meanings may emerge through the process of making, but not before.

| Biography |
Originally I graduated in French and Russian. I lived in London, Oxford and lsle of Skye before moving to Suffolk in 1974, teaching in schools, adult education and the Open University. My art training was at Lowestoft and Colchester Institute, specialising in Textiles. I subsequently taught textiles and painting. In 2001, I joined Asylum Studios in Rendlesham. In 2003 I took part in Dialogues, an international exhibition of contemporary art in St Petersburg, on an Arts Council grant. Whilst there, I was invited to show at the IIIrd International Graphics Biennale at Novosibirsk, Siberia.
I have exhibited widely in East Anglia, including Firstsite Colchester, Norwich Cathedral, Peterborough Art House, Peter Pears Gallery in Aldeburgh, and Hintlesham Hall. In London I was selected for The Discerning Eye at The Mall Galleries. I have work in the Novosibirsk State Art Gallery, and in private collections in the UK, USA, and Switzerland.
