Liz Waugh McManus

Sculptor
Artist's Statement
I aim to create a sense of life and movement in my work to provoke a feeling of otherworldliness, relating to my background in puppetry and anthropology as well as sculpture. My references include botanical structures, the human body and art history/history.

I specialize in solid cast glass, sometimes combined with other materials e.g. wood, concrete, steel, or bronze. I contrast clear with coloured glass and polished with partially-polished /unpolished surfaces.

In some recent sculptures I have been combining glass and film projection.

Biography
After training in art and design at Dartington College of Arts and Oxford Polytechnic, I did a PhD in anthropology of art at the Queen’s University of Belfast. As well as being a sculptor, I run Obelon Arts, which produces theatre shows and organises arts projects. The language of gesture and movement runs through all my work.
