Lynn Hutton

Sculptor and Printmaker
Artist's Statement

My work is diverse in its application and use of materials. It has evolved around the concepts of identity and memory, as a result of a familial experience of Alzheimer’s disease.

My practice is research-based. More recently, I have begun to explore the concept of memory in the landscape and the visible traces left by human activity and also that which has become buried: the seen and unseen. This allows me to incorporate my interest in archaeology. I have a particular interest in standing stones, stone circles and artefacts from ancient cultures within the British Isles.

I am concentrating on creating sculptures in clay and stone and I have returned to the traditional method of hand carving in stone. 2011 is a research rather than exhibiting year as I build up a new body of work.

Biography
Since graduating from Oxford (History) and Norwich University College of the Arts, I have worked as a freelance artist. My practice is divided between themed gallery exhibitions, nationally and locally: commissions both corporate and private and commercial work for galleries. I have written articles for magazines and images of my work have been printed in books. When I am not working in my studio, I am cultivating my vegetable garden in the company of my chickens.
