Jenny Goater
|
| Painter and Sculptor |
| Artist's Statement |
As a painter/sculptor I find that using wire
translates the drawn line into an exciting three dimensional
medium. I derived the technique from armatures constructed to
support works in clay or plaster. Wire gives the freedom of
drawing in space, and its shapes can suggest dynamic movement
or static volume and weight. I can also make the clearest line,
or a dense texture when used as a mesh, adding light and tone
to the work. Some ingenuity is necessary to ensure that whatever
size the work, the wire creates a sound structure which makes
visual sense from all angles.

| Biography |
Jenny trained at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham,
where several of her large works were hung in Corsham Court.
She taught at Millfield School and continued to paint and etch
inspired by the Somerset Levels. In 1978 she and her family
moved to Palgrave where she ran an art group and helped to set
up the Palgrave Gallery. Besides following her own development,
Jenny works to commission and produces works from small table
sculptures to larger garden pieces. Recent commissions including
a one and a half metre high prancing horse for Ferrari.
