Statement |
I paint in acrylics, often with a structure of underpainting and charcoal drawing, to create strong images of figures, faces or groups. A work may be rubbed down and repainted to achieve the desired result. However I try to eliminate unnecessary contrivance, allowing the qualities of the media to prevail over photographic appearance.
My relief prints express a wider range of subject matter and are mostly created by lino-cutting. I have experimented with etching the block to produce graduated tones and certain effects.

| Biography |
Born Cheltenham in 1944 and lived in Cornwall until 1954. Attended Sir John Leman School, Beccles, Suffolk 1955-1962 and Lowestoft Art School 1962-3. Continued to draw, paint and make artworkafter marrying and moving to Norwich. Was a guide at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Art. In 1984 started a degree course in Education at UEA and took up linoprinting and etching, graduating in 1988. Taught in primary education until 1997. Resumed full time art activities and has exhibited widely, both locally and nationally.
