Alison Jones

Painter – watercolour, pastel, mixed media
Artist's Statement
A festival of fuchsias held in the village church provided me with the incentive to pick up a paintbrush in 1984. To begin with I used acrylic and gouache on a variety of different coloured backgrounds, which portrayed the vibrancy found in fuchsias. Later the technique of using watercolours with a 'dry' brush was integrated with the other media to produce the full range of botanical subjects. This not only allowed me to describe the plant accurately but to capture the true character and beauty of the plant.

Biography
Alison Jones is basically self-taught with no formal education in art. She was introduced to watercolour and received tuition by Jenny Jowett and Clare Dalby, both leading botanical artists.

In 1990 and 1993 Alison Jones was awarded the Grenfell Silver medals from the Royal Horticultural Society for exhibitions of fuchsias and cyclamen coum respectively. In 1995 the book 'Fuchsias: The Complete Guide', written by Edwin J.Goulding and published by B.T.Batsford was illustrated by Alison Jones with 40 line drawings and 12 colour plates. In October 2000 Alison became a full member of the Society of Floral Painters and will be exhibiting nationwide.

In December 2000 Alison was awarded the Grenfell Silver-Gilt medal for an exhibition of alstroemerias.
